Olive Oil

Olive Oil

I first travelled to Portugal at the age of 18 and soon fell in love with the country. In 1998, I was fortunate to have the opportunity to purchase a small piece of land, on which grew about 100 olive trees. Forgotten for decades, my family and I have gradually re-tamed these wonderful olive trees and in turn, they now reward us with delicious olive oil. The best we have ever tasted, but perhaps we are a little biased?
Picked by hand every year ...
Every year between October and December, we pick the olives by hand and take them to the olive press or Lagar de Azeite  in a small village called Pia do Urso, near Fatima. Here they are sorted, washed and then crushed to collect the precious oil.
When we have a little bit left over ...

We use our oil through out the year in all our cooking. Whenever we have a little extra it can be purchased from my shop in Modbury in one of my 500ml oil bottles fitted with a Portuguese cork stopper and a stainless steel drizzler.
